My favorite tune of all the Hit Machine songs. Why? Because on this album although it is a bit our of numerical sequence, in that it was recorded at the Ground Zero warehouse in Oakland Ca...but it was actually the very first time we ever played together. "Liar" is a masterpiece. It is completely raw and spontaneous, but all of us are listening so closely to one another's playing, that I always feel the waves of perfection. I am playing with "chop stick" mallets on acoustic guitar strings, John on electric guitar, Richard on backing vocals and George on his amazing bass guitar. There is no lying on this track...nothing Faked...or rehearsed....Pure Creativity. Interesting to hear the lyrics after all these years..and to find out that this song is about Jesus Christ.
lyrics
When you are alone and can't see Nothing
When you are alone and can't see nothing
And then they call you...a Liar
They lit a fire at night when I came to the sea shore
Come to the hills that you've always known
To the place you've known before
But they call you a....Liar
When you are alone in the dark of night
And you can't see a single thing
When you think that all your friends are gone
They can't understand a single thing
And they call you...a Liar
I knew a person on that beach
And they were wearing a holy robe
All around they couldn't see a single thing
In all the holy foam
And they called Him...a Liar
Now you see and now you know
How can you see me there
What are you going to say
When they come for you too..
They will call you...a Liar
What can you do when you're walking on the beach
And the people have all gone home
What can you see when they can't see a single thing
And the phone won't ring
They will call you...a Liar
Walking on that beach and can't see a single thing
Can't understand what the people do
When they can't even see the King
Liar Liar Liar Liar
